The Humpback whales are coming to the Gold Coast!

Tallship Whale Watching 2 1

There are many reasons to why you should visit Queensland and the Gold Coast, but between June and November every year the Gold Coast hosts their special guest, the Southern Humpback Whales.

The whales spend their summers in the rich icy cold waters in Antarctica feeding on krill. But between June and November the whales migrate thousands of kilometres up north along the East Coast of Australia to our warm waters of tropical Queensland.

During this migration the whales feed, mate and the pregnant females, who had been fattening up on krill all summer, head to safe waters in the tropics to give birth to their calves. The Gold Coast waters are used as a rest stop and play-ground for the whales on their long migration. They stop here to relax, sing, play and socialise, and on a rare occasion females will give birth if they don’t make it up to the tropics in time.

This is one of the reasons why the Gold Coast is an excellent location for whale watching cruises, so come and visit Australia’s tourism capital- the Gold Coast and see The Southern Humpback - the sixth largest animal on the planet and can grow up to 18 metres long and weigh up to 40 tonnes.

Your Surfers Paradise accommodation is only minutes from the many whale watching cruises available, where you will have the opportunity to see these amazing wild animals in their natural habitat and we promise it will be a special experience unlike anything else!
